Relationships are meant to bring connection, joy, and support — but sometimes they become a source of hurt, frustration, or distance. You might feel unheard, misunderstood, or unsure if you can repair the bond you once had.
You’re not alone. Many couples reach a point where they need a safe, neutral space to talk openly and rebuild trust.
I’m Naeem Rana, a couples therapist based in Melbourne. For over 11 years, I’ve worked with couples from many different walks of life, helping them navigate challenges, strengthen their connection, and rediscover what brought them together.
I work with couples experiencing:
Communication breakdowns – feeling unheard or misunderstood
Trust issues & infidelity – repairing and rebuilding after betrayal
Cross-cultural relationship challenges – navigating differences in values, expectations, and family dynamics
Emotional disconnection – feeling more like housemates than partners
Life transitions – adjusting to parenthood, migration, career changes, or loss
Trauma, anxiety, or depression – supporting one or both partners’ mental health
Conflict escalation – recurring arguments, anger, or hurtful patterns
I believe every relationship is unique — there’s no “one-size-fits-all” solution. My role is to create a safe and respectful space where you and your partner can:
Speak openly without fear of blame or judgment
Understand each other’s needs and emotions more clearly
Learn practical tools to communicate better and resolve conflict
Heal from past hurts and strengthen your emotional bond
I combine evidence-based therapies such as Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Integrative Couples Therapy to tailor each session to your needs.
Over 11 years in mental health and more than 20 years in higher education
Specialist training in couples therapy, trauma-informed practice, and crisis support
Fluent in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, and English, allowing for therapy in your preferred language
Lived experience with migration, cultural adjustment, and cross-cultural relationships — I understand the complexity and beauty of blending cultures in love.

Naeem is an exceptional couple's counselor who was critical in transforming our relationship over the last year from a difficult and daunting past to a stable and hopeful present. From the first session, we felt heard, respected, and supported in a safe, non-judgmental space. Naeem balances empathy with practicality, offering insights that helped us identify the root causes of our challenges while providing actionable tools for improvement. We found it particularly helpful that he was attuned to the cultural and familial nuances of our situation, which allowed us to feel comfortable in open communication with him and ultimately with each other.
We met with Naeem as a couple as well as on an individual basis (as suggested by him). He was able to guide us through conflicts during this time with patience and insight, while helping us individually to better understand our feelings and expectations. With his help, we’ve learned how to approach disagreements as opportunities for growth which has strengthened our relationship. We both feel like we have gained the skills required to i) have tough conversations and ii) feel more secure as individuals. This has helped us as a couple but has also been invaluable for other personal relationships. The experience has been life-changing.
We sincerely appreciate Naeem's help and support and wholeheartedly recommend him.

The few days following our last session were profound. It felt like the last moments of a puzzle where the last pieces click into place. Some of the parts we had found in our sessions were in different places than where we located them at the time, but I was able to feel where they were in my body, and hear more or less what they were trying to say.
The interesting thing is that I had been meditating on these places for a long time. In energy speak, they are the chakras. And I had known that the chakras correlate to components of the self. What I hadn’t known, was that those places are also where the parts sit in my body. I hope that makes sense.
From that day, I developed a dialogue with my parts and I check in with them regularly. It makes me feel more confident and more myself. Don’t get me wrong, I still get distracted by shiny things and ignore my parts. But its temporary and I can easily find my way back to self. I am kinder to myself.
Anyway, the point being, I would never have got there without you. From the time I sat on that couch with my partner and you brought a clarity and a calmness that allowed me to feel empowered, to your kindness and patience months later with helping me reach my parts and become more whole.
What you do has got to be the most worthwhile thing a person can do, because I am eternally grateful.
